Swedish Massage Therapy
Massage is performed with the client on a table, using fingers, knuckles, elbows and forearms to treat the soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and joints. Techniques that may be used during a session can include Trigger Point therapy, joint mobilizations, myofascial release, manual lymphatic drainage, hydrotherapy (application of heat or cold), active/passive/resisted range of motion, stretching, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), and remedial exercises (instruction for home stretching and strengthening).
Cupping Therapy
Cupping Therapy, bringing the ancient Eastern art of cupping to the modern day practice. This modality allows
for a unique approach to quickly and effectively produce space within the tissues (muscles, fascia, skin) by lifting
them through suction. Cupping can be used on most areas of the body. It also works well on scar tissue within
muscles as well as reducing the appearance of, and limitations caused by external topical scars on the skin.
Plastic or soft silicone cups are applied with controlled amounts of suction on the area to be treated and left on
from 5 to 30 minutes. Active range of motion from the patient is also used when possible to further enhance the
release to the tissues by stretching the area. Applying a single cup and massaging the area is also used; the
tissues are picked up as the cup is pulled up gently and run along the muscles. Both the static and massaging
cupping can be used over boney areas like the spine and sacrum that are often difficult to treat for tightness.
Please visit the separate Cupping page here for a full detailed list of benefits and Contraindications (situations when cupping cannot be used on certain patients).

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (aka Graston)
A popular, well known version of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) that many chiropractors and Massage Therapists use today is Graston Technique, which is simply a trademarked name. There are many studies showing the effectiveness of IASTM for conditions like plantar fasciitis (foot pain), cervical (neck) and lumbar (low back) strain, tendonitis (Golfer's and Tennis elbow), Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, rotator cuff tendinosis, scar tissue, trigger finger, shin splints and fibromyalgia. The 'Soft Tissue Tool' that I use is made of premium quality, surgical grade North American stainless steel precision laser cut for a consistent shape, smooth curvature which glides safely over the skin. The symmetrical double beveled edges allow for multiple treatment angles so tissue can be worked in any direction maintaining consistent tissue tension. It can be used to detect myofascial inconsistencies. Both the practitioner and the patient can feel the lumpy, crunchy adhesions in stressed areas with the use of the tool. Most treatments are quite comfortable and even feel good! The tool is used to perform frictions on muscles and tendons that have been overstressed or injured. Muscles, fascia and tendons try to protect themselves from repetitive strain or after acute injuries by reinforcing the area, laying down adhesions and scar tissue in an irregular fashion. The multi-directional frictioning with the Soft Tissue Tool realigns the fibers in a longitudinal manner, improving range of motion and decreasing pain and dysfunction.
