There Is Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself
Governments, health institutions and the media have presented a confusing combination of information, speculation and misinformation, much of which has promoted fear and divisiveness. Many of these pronouncements have naturally created a great deal of uncertainty and socio-economic upheaval. In certain cases, they have been used to justify the introduction of draconian social and public health measures, which only adds to the overall sense of anxiety and uncertainty.
Although this virus is aggressive and highly contagious, much of the evidence indicates that of this particular strain of coronavirus produces only mild to moderate symptoms in most individuals. In addition, there are a high percentage of people who have no symptoms at all, which has significantly skewed the mortality rate. When this group is taken into account, the actual mortality rate (which typically targets those with pre-existing health issues), is much less than many of the reports might have indicated.
By all accounts, we should all make it a priority to protect the most vulnerable among us, by providing support to those with compromised health and pre-existing conditions. I encourage everyone to take prudent action to minimize the risk of infection and possible transmission to others by adhering to reasonable modified social interaction and hygienic measures.
It is also important to acknowledge the amazing power of our immune system, which has evolved over millions of years to be able to cope with a multitude of threats. There are various factors that can influence its effectiveness. These include nutrition, sleep, core temperature and stress. Dr. Christopher Hassell has put together a very helpful website with practical suggestions to support your well-being: www.balancedimmunity.org. I encourage you to explore this useful resource.
The greatest threat to us during this challenging time is the undermining of our confidence, clarity and connection. In fact, adversity is also an opportunity for growth, motivating us to look within ourselves for the true source of strength that lies within our spiritual essence. By choosing to empower ourselves by calmly maintaining a rational perspective based on the facts and connecting to our inner resources, we will be able to successfully navigate through this transformative time.
I invite you to listen to an inspiring presentation by one of the leading spiritual teachers of our time, Eckhart Tolle:
